Not all freedoms are good. If I have the legal freedom to murder you, that would not be good.
Not all equality is good. If children were treated equally under the law as parents, that would not be good.
So, how do we decide what freedoms are good and which people to treat equally?
Modern society cannot answer this question, because it will not ask it. Moderns hold that Freedom and Equality are monotonically good in and of themselves. To ask the question is to refute the principle of liberalism, which is the principle that all modern political action is “justified” by. Understanding our own failure requires courage, and humility. Which we lack.
But the question remains, and cries for an answer.
How long shall we pretend to deafness?
